Ron Carmel · IFS Practitioner

Ron Carmel, IFS practitioner.

Hello, my name is Ron, and I support people in their journey of self-discovery: the work of shedding the layers of who we needed to be in the past and revealing more of our true selves. We do this not by deciding in advance who we should become, but by finding our way into a more intimate relationship with ourselves (one that is kinder, clearer, and more attentive) and allowing change to flow from there.

I primarily practice a non-pathologizing, evidence-based approach known as Internal Family Systems (IFS), though I weave in other approaches as well.

I emphasize safety, honesty, and relationality in my work with clients, as well as in my personal life. I am a dad, an LGBTQ+ ally, culturally Jewish, and an immigrant.

Please note that I am an IFS practitioner, not an IFS therapist. Both do the same IFS work, and there are some distinctions.

Offerings

Individual Sessions

Our work begins in the places where you struggle or feel stuck. We can relate to that struggle as a distress call sent out by a part of you that needs help. With deep care and curiosity, we can follow this distress call to its source, find out who is sending it and why, and give that part of you the care and attention it needs.

Lovingly tending to these places within us can help us transform how we relate to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us. The knots of our struggles can begin to loosen, we can better see their inner workings, and gradually untangle them over time.

In this way, our struggles can also be trailheads that lead us to more integrated and whole versions of ourselves.

Individual sessions are either 50 or 75 minutes long and are offered either remotely via Zoom or in person in San Francisco.

Psychedelic Preparation and Integration

I offer preparation and integration support for people who work with psychedelic medicines as part of their growth and healing.

Like dreams, psychedelic experiences feel vivid at first and fade quickly. Without time and attention dedicated to integration, we snap back into ordinary life and lose much of what we encountered. Integration is a kind of harvest, weaving what we found into daily life.

Preparation gives your experience focus by helping you get clear on your intentions. We also begin exploring the material related to those intentions so it's closer to the surface, giving the medicine more to work with. And while I cannot offer medical advice, I can help you think through possible risk factors and which medical providers to speak with about whether this is safe for you.

IFS is well suited to this work and widely used for it. I often find that even without my introducing IFS, people start talking about and connecting with their parts through these experiences.

Preparation and integration sessions are 50 minutes long and are offered either remotely via Zoom or in person in San Francisco. No medicine is taken during these sessions.

Parenting Support

We often have to navigate complex interactions with our children quickly and in real time. I offer parents a supportive space for slowing down and examining these interactions and what they evoke.

This process simultaneously supports the parent's own healing journey and the process of finding more harmonious and connected ways to be with our children in challenging moments.

I offer one-on-one parenting support sessions as well as small parenting support groups in person and online.

Fees

I use a sliding scale approach and ask clients to choose their own fee based on the following guidance:

Affordable Range
$120 - $180 / hr

Access matters to me. If paying more would create financial strain, this is the right place for you. Lower fees are also available when needed, just ask.

Sustainable Range
$180 - $220 / hr

If a fee in this range would require some adjustment in your spending but won’t create financial strain, this is the one for you. It helps keep my work sustainable.

Abundant Range
$220 - $280 / hr

This is the range for you if it would have little to no impact on your spending habits. It helps me offer lower cost support to others.
